About Storytelling
My desire to write comes from Cinema. When I was little, one of my family's favorite activities was watching movies. In the DVD era, my family used to buy dozens. Two films come to mind that greatly influenced me. On the one hand, there's Cinema Paradiso (my favorite film), an Italian film that we became obsessed with. We watched it nonstop. I imagined myself being a kind of Salvatore when I grew up. On the other hand, there's the film The Butterfly Effect. I was deeply impacted by its reflection on writing, memory, the ability to observe, to tell stories, and how decisions can influence our destiny.
Around 2012-2013, my sisters and I took a short course in audiovisual production. At that time, I liked the topic of screenwriting, directing, and even continuity editing… In 2016, I took my first course with Luis Bond, an intensive screenwriting course. Luis Bond is an excellent teacher, I would recommend any of his courses. In retrospect, I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to see that course in person. Luis Bond is quite a character, one of those young professors who pace back and forth, using students in the examples, sitting on the desk and making reference after reference, and I felt gratified for catching them all, as if catching references somehow justified your existence. After that, I was, as they would say in Venezuela, 'fevered' with the subject. At that time, I wrote a couple of micro-stories and even a short play for the church my family belonged to about the steps the serpent used to deceive Eve in Genesis. Due to university workload and then immigration, I paused writing.
There's also the idea that you need 'inspiration' to write and wait for that lightning bolt to strike. Time passed like that until, in Argentina in 2024, I got hooked on Greek mythology through José María Barrios. There I rediscovered my desire to write, my love for stories, and my view of myths as something deeper and more transcendental. In 2025, I took other two courses with Luis Bond again (this time online): “the Voyages of Heracles” with the Jung Center Caracas and “Psychology in Character Development” with Círculo Amarillo.
At this moment, I want to use this space to share my writing and improve this personal project.
